Latest Sermon

The next batch of sermons will take a different sort of rhythm: 1st Sunday we’ll be following the Children Sunday Groups teaching. 2nd Sunday will be preached by Someone Other than me and follow the Anglican Lectionary. The rest of the sermons (me) will be on a series of some sort. Romans 5 and following then Leviticus, after Easter some Acts.

These sermons are here so that you can meet together in Home Groups and take the bible reading and go a little deeper and say But how does this apply to me, this week. Most of the groups meet on a monday evening but there’s an afternoon one and a wednesday evening one. If you’d like to know more then ask James on Sunday. They’re also here so that you can catch up if you missed one!

The Bible’s purpose is not so much to show you how to live a good life. The Bible’s purpose is toshow you how God’s grace breaks into your life against your will and saves you from the sin and brokenness otherwise you would never be able to overcome. .. religion is “if you obey, then you will be accepted”. But the Gospels, “If you are absolutely accepted, and sure you’re accepted, only then will you ever begin to obey”. Those are two utterly different things. Every page of the bible shows the difference”. (From Keller)
How can I praise God through this text?
How can I confess my sins through this text?
If this is really true, what wrong behaviour, what harmful emotions or false attitudes result in me when I forget this?
What should I be aspiring to do on the basis of this text?
What problems are you facing? Why are you telling me this today?
