Churches Together in the Lewes Area
A meeting with the parliamentary candidates from the Liberal Democrats, the Conservatives, the Labour Party and the Greens has been arranged for Wednesday, 14th April, 2010, at 7.30 for 8pm.
The meeting will take place at St John’s - sub - Castro in Lewes and will consist of a general statement from all candidates followed by a question and answer session. Coffee will be available before the meeting.
This is an opportunity for members of all denominations to seek answers to such issues as the apparent marginalisation of Christianity, the care of the elderly, the NHS or the economic problems we face.
All congregations are asked to submit questions for this important event. Questions should be in writing and include a name and contact number. Only those prepared to attend the meeting and participate in person should submit questions. It is hoped that as many questions as possible on a variety of topics will be dealt with at the session.
There will be an opportunity to submit questions at the door on the night.
Please send questions by Thursday 1st April, to :Mrs Ann Batchelor, Secretary of CTLA,
27, Highdown Road,Lewes, BN7 1QAor by e-mail to apt@macdream.net

RE-ORDERING WORKS IN ST MARY’S CHURCH
Following the granting of the Faculty, work is about to begin in the south aisle, chancel and nave areas of the church.
The builders will start work on Monday. 15th February when they will be lowering the pulpit by removing the top step; the stone plinths under the altar and levelling the floor in the south aisle.
In preparation for this work all the loose fittings in that area will be stored, including the British Legion standards, which later will be fixed higher up the wall.
The new cupboards will be made and fitted around the altar in early March. Also in March the choir stalls and Rector’s desk will be removed from the chancel and work will begin on installing the projection equipment, camera and screens in the chancel and south aisle. The carpet in the sanctuary will be removed and the tiles in that area cleaned. New carpets will be laid in the chancel and prayer area in readiness to receive the “ecclesiastical” wooden chairs.
It is planned for the work to be completed by Easter Sunday.

SAFE DRIVING
It has been drawn to my attention that some drivers on a Sunday morning in Hamsey Lane are very intent in getting to the 10am service on time and forgetting that there may be people driving in the opposite direction. One particular person who is often driving towards home at that time has had several scares and only makes it on to the verge just in time.
Please remember it is better to be late than not arrive at all, but even better to start YOUR journey 5 minutes earlier! Thank you for your cooperation from Joyce – a friend of driver and passenger
Stamps
Yes, Alison is still collecting them in the bag between the church and the conker room. Please put Brisih stamps separately from foreign ones. Thanks.
Drudgery Divine
The Decade’s new, the dirt’s the same
Some things change not one iota.
Therefore thanks to scourers, scrubbers,
All who feature on the cleaning rota.
While we juggle hoover, mop and duster
Keys and bucket,all dangle dingle,
Pray for two more volunteers
And a ban on raisins at Christingle.
Actually it’s not that difficult! Rowena Williams 400256

Brass Cleaning
You should be getting a sense from the list above that there are various jobs that need doing in Church. A little volunteering goes a long way and this one isn’t too time consuming. See Gillian Warren (400205) for more info.
